Man Electrocuted By Downed Power Lines, Dies

A man has died after being electrocuted by power lines that had fallen.

Tampa Fire Rescue paramedics responded to a 9-1-1 call at 10:03 a.m. Wednesday morning of a possible electrocution behind the home located at 3021 W. Fair Oaks Ave. in Bayshore.

Witnesses at the scene say they heard a loud boom and the victim went to investigate. According to witnesses, the victim went to a small space between a shed and a fence where power lines had fallen.

When paramedics arrived they found the victim, 22-year-old Christopher Diehl, on the ground but could not approach him while the power lines were still charged.

Once TECO arrived and secured power, paramedics retrieved the patient and began treating him. He was placed in the rescue car for immediate transport to Tampa General Hospital while paramedics performed CPR en route, but unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival at TGH.
