Bradenton Family Displaced After Lightning Causes Fire

A lightning strike is what Manatee County Fire Rescue says caused a fire early Sunday morning at a home in Bradenton near Lakewood Ranch.

It happened at 6538 Flycatcher Lane in Bradenton. The family called 9-1-1 after noticing smoke coming from the attic just before 8 a.m. The family is now displaced after the fire.

WFLA spoke to the homeowners, who say they heard a loud pop that they thought came from someplace else. Originally they had no idea lightning had hit their house. Next thing they know, smoke is emanating from their attic.

No one was injured. The estimated damage is valued at $100,000.
