College Swimmer Dies In Sarasota Pool

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Authorities are investigating the death of a Dartmouth College swimmer who was visiting Florida with family.

Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Wendy Rose said in an email late Sunday that 21-year-old Tate Ramsden drowned in the outside swimming pool at a Sarasota YMCA on Saturday afternoon.

In an email to students and faculty, Dartmouth President Phil Hanlon wrote that Ramsden’s family has planned a memorial service next weekend in his hometown of Nashville, Tennessee.

Ramsden swam for Dartmouth as a freshman and sophomore. He was scheduled to graduate in 2017.

Hanlon said Ramsden was visiting Sarasota with family. He wrote that school officials have been in touch with Ramsden’s family “to share our deepest sympathies with them at this time of heartbreaking loss.”
