Investigation Continues in Morning Shooting

Officers located a vehicle near 23rd Avenue and 50th Street that matched the description of a car used in a shooting that had recently occurred in the 2900 Block of East 28th Avenue.

The suspect, 20-year-old Devonshae Hill from Tampa, fled the area at a high rate of speed when officers attempted to make contact with him.

Officers followed the vehicle briefly until Air Service responded to assist with monitoring the vehicle’s location.

TPD pilots continued to follow the driver after he ditched the vehicle in the Palm River area. Air Service was able to successfully direct patrol units to a dumpster where the suspect was hiding.

Officers arrested the suspect on several charges including, Fleeing to Elude at a Highspeed, Reckless Driving and

No Valid Driver’s License. The suspect’s white Nissan Altima was seized as evidence.

During the investigation, officers determined that Hill was not involved in the shooting that took place minutes before officers attempted to make contact with him.

Detectives are still actively working to identify the suspects who fled the shooting scene in a White or light colored Nissan Altima after injuring John Stallworth. Officers found Stallworth in an alley north of 28th Avenue with a gunshot wound to his buttocks. He was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS(8477) or text “CSTB plus your tip” to 274637 (CRIMES). Anonymous tips leading to an arrest may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 in cash.
