A garbage truck driver was forced to dump the load he was carrying after discovering it was on fire, according to Tampa Fire Rescue.
TFR responded shortly after noon to a 9-1-1 call about a fire in the parking lot at 4913 West Laurel Street. The Waste Management collection truck dumped its load after noticing it was on fire.
The driver dumped the load in the parking lot so firefighters could extinguish it. He was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital after complaints of smoke inhalation.
Waste Management has been notified and will handle the cleanup. No other injuries were reported.
