Business Leader Stephen Lytle To Enter Race For Tampa City Council

Civic leader and businessman Lytle will announce candidacy in September

Per a news release on Friday morning, president of the South Seminole Heights Civic Association Stephen Lytle will announce his candidacy for Tampa City Council on September 6.

Lytle currently sits on both the City of Tampa Code Enforcement/Public Nuisance Abatement Board and the City of Tampa Citizens Budget Advisory Committee, the latter as the chairman.  The son of a teacher, Lytle suggests his civic motivations began at an early age.  He is currently the Regional Human Resources Manager for Walmart’s healthcare division, overseeing Florida, Georgia, Alabama, and Mississippi.  The Tampa Bay Business Journal named Lytle one of their “40 under 40” earlier this year.

In the statement, Lytle was quoted as saying that “together the citizens of Tampa can achieve more than any single person could ever do alone.  It is time to work together and move Tampa forward.”

A graduate of the University of South Florida, Lytle will be campaigning for the seat from District 3, a citywide position on the council.  The candidate will base his run on three tentpoles:  Sound fiscal policy, improved infrastructure, and empowered neighborhoods.

Infrastructure in particular will be a major point of contention in Tampa’s upcoming election in March 2019.  As Florida and the Tampa area have experienced a fantastic rate of growth, traffic and public transportation loom ever larger as concerns in the day to day life of the city’s many voters.  On top of that, positions on the proposed Tampa Bay Rays stadium in Ybor will certainly be at issue, with an infrastructure layout that would come attached to the current stadium plan.

Tampa’s municipal elections, including the race to replace outgoing Bob Buckhorn in the mayor’s office, will take place on March 5 of 2019.  Stephen Lytle’s official announcement is scheduled for September 6th, to be held at Brew Bus Brewing in Seminole Heights.
