TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A Tampa area woman faces felony child neglect charges after deputies say she left her 1-year-old son inside her vehicle while she shopped at Macy’s.
Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputies arrested 21-year-old Jasmine Emani Jones on Thursday after University Mall security officers spotted the child in the car.
The Tampa Tribune reports the child was sweating but not injured. Surveillance video showed the boy was left for about 40 minutes.
The newspaper reports that child protective services took custody of the boy and is making arrangements to place him with relatives.
Jones was released from jail early Thursday. Records don’t indicate whether she’s hired a lawyer.
