Tampa Police Officer Better After Shooting

 

A Tampa police officer shot during a confrontation in a hotel parking lot is recovering and could go home today.

Officer Jose Rodriguez was one of several officers who followed two cars whose drivers were shooting at each other after an argument at a gas station.

The two turned into the Hyatt Place Hotel on 30th Street where one gunman, 46 year old Patrick McManamon, managed to shoot and kill the other gunman, 51 year old Edward King.

Officer Rodriguez was then shot by McManamon in the chest at close range, but his bullet proof vest stopped the slug.

The 53 year old Rodriguez was hospitalized with injuries but is expected to make a full recovery.

McManamon and King are said to be violent ex-felons.
