Tampa Mother To Go On Trial For Killing Kids

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Weeks before a Tampa mother was accused of fatally shooting her two children, she allegedly told a neighbor she was going to kill her daughter.

During a court hearing Friday, Circuit Judge Emmett Lamar Battles denied a defense motion that he bar the prosecution from using the testimony about the neighbor’s comment at Julie Schenecker’s upcoming trial.

Schenecker is scheduled to go on trial April 28 in the Jan. 27, 2011, slayings of her two children, 16-year-old Calyx and 13-year-old Beau.

Schenecker’s lawyers have notified the court they intend to argue she was insane at the time of the killings. If Schenecker is convicted of premeditated murder, the prosecution plans to seek the death penalty.
