Tampa Federal Court House to Become Boutique Hotel

Tampa’s City Council has approved a long-term lease that will allow for renovations to start on the 107-year-old historic federal courthouse on Florida Avenue.

The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1974 but has been closed for about 14 years.

The federal government deeded it to the city for $1 in 2003.

The Memphis-based Development Services Group has been selected to head up the restoration and turn the courthouse into a 4 star boutique hotel.

The $25-million project is slated to start in December.

The project is slated to be completed by May 2014.
