Single Mom Killed In Sunday Shooting

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- A 33-year-old single mother was shot and killed Sunday night. Vicki Hoffman was shot multiple times with a semi-automatic handgun just before 9 p.m.

The incident occurred in Hoffman’s apartment in north Tallahassee. She was taken to Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare where she died Monday morning from her injuries.

The news was unexpected to Hoffman’s friends and neighbors in the Planation at Pine Lake apartment complex.

The Tallahassee Police Department is investigating the case as a homicide, but no arrests have been made yet. There were very little details provided in a report released by the department, including suspect information.

According to police, an acquaintance said her 10-year-old son made the 911 call, calling for help to apartment 713.

A police report said, responding officers found Hoffman with multiple gunshot wounds and a cut. She was wearing a blouse, multi colored shorts and no shoes at the time.

One of Hoffman’s close friends, Joy Dowdy, saw on the news Monday morning that there had been a shooting at Hoffman’s apartment complex. One of their mutual friends notified Dowdy that Hoffman had been the victim.

Hoffman leaves behind her son, whom she devoted her life to. He attended Gilchrist Elementary School. He is now with a family member, figuring out life without his mother.

Her son has various different health problems, which called for many doctors appointments that Hoffman would take him to.

In October 2014, Hoffman divorced her son’s father, who lives in Hawaii, giving her sole custody of the boy. She had been working as a bookkeeper for the Killearn Homes Association as of a few months ago. KHA president said Hoffman was a good worker, but took off a lot to care for her boy.

Police say Hoffman’s downstairs neighbor didn’t recall hearing or seeing anything Sunday night. She recalled seeing a swarm of police and paramedics and just thought someone was sick.
