Strawberry Farms Run Sprinklers for Protection

Strawberry Farmers worked hard Wednesday morning protecting their strawberries as temperatures dropped below freezing.

To keep the berries safe they have to run their sprinkler systems to give them a protective ice coating so they don’t fall below 32 degrees.

But Tuesday night the temperatures dropped to 27 degrees.

At Fancy Farms, in Plant City, the sprinklers were running since 10 p.m. Tuesday night.

Owner, Carl Grooms says he’s worked through out the night checking on the systems to make sure his equipment was running smoothly.

Once the temperature reached 32 degrees, the sprinkler system was shut off and the berry picking resumed.
