St. Petersburg Woman Says Learn CPR

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) _ Barbara Sweda’s message is simple. Learn CPR.

The retired St. Petersburg nurse has used her CPR skills twice to help her husband during a heart attack. Her efforts saved 69-year-old Gerald Sweda’s life in 2005.

The second time occurred Saturday while they were inside their car.

The Tampa Bay Times (http://bit.ly/y1TWTb ) reports Sweda sprang into action when her husband began having problems.

She quickly asked passersby for help.

A man helped her get her husband out of the car.

A woman called 911.

Gerald Sweda had no pulse and was not breathing when his wife started CPR.

Paramedics arrived and applied an external defibrillator on him.

Officials say Sweda was alert and talking by the time he reached the hospital thanks to his wife’s quick actions.
