St. Pete woman dies after being shot in front of home

ST. PETERSBURG — Officers were investigating the fatal shooting of a woman found laying on her driveway early Friday, police said.

Police arrived at 5263 5th Ave S just before 1 a.m. When they arrived, officers discovered Karen Gunther, 47, sprawled on her driveway with a gunshot wound to her upper body, St. Petersburg police said.

Gunther was taken to Bayfront Medical Center, where she later died.

Before the shooting, Gunther was out drinking with a friend less than an hour before a neighbor heard the gunshots and walked outside to find Gunther had been shot, police said.

The motive of the shooting was unclear and detectives had not identified any suspects early Friday.

An investigation remained under way Friday morning.
