St. Pete May Ticket For Pot Possession

A St. Petersburg city committee is moving forward on an effort to de-criminalize the possession of small amounts of marijuana.

The Public Service Committee wants to allow police to issue a ticket to anyone caught with 20 grams or less of pot instead of arresting them every time.

The move comes after several Florida counties and cities this year did the same thing—tickets for people possessing enough pot for personal use but not enough to qualify as a dealer.

Other circumstances would factor into whether a marijuana possessor got a ticket or went to jail, like whether they were on parole or probation, or had a criminal record.

Fines would run $100 for a first offense.
