St. Pete man pleads guilty to manslaughter

A man accused of second-degree murder pleaded guilty to manslaughter on Thursday instead.

Phillip J. Peterson, 24, had been on trial for shooting Jimmy Lee Adams, 34, also known as “Tank,” in 2007 at St. Petersburg’s Citrus Grove Apartments.

But before the trial was over, he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge. By doing so, he received a 20-year-prison sentence.

His defense attorney Bjorn Brunvand said a second-degree murder conviction could have led to a life sentence.
