St. Augustine Deputies Kill Man Suspected Of Slaying Wife

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Authorities say deputies in northeast Florida fatally shot a gun-carrying man moments after he killed his wife.

The St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office says the shooting happened around 9 p.m. Monday in St. Augustine.

Sheriff’s Commander Chuck Mulligan says deputies responded to a 911 call about a violent disturbance.

Mulligan says two deputies were confronted by a man holding a sawed-off shotgun, and that the deputies shot him when he pointed the gun their way.

Mulligan says the unidentified suspect killed his wife, whose body was found inside the home.

Mulligan says there were also children at the home, and that they were removed by a neighbor who called 911. The children were not injured.

The identities of the deputies and the suspect were not released.
