$10,000 Reward Offered in Soldier Beating

Police are still searching for the men responsible for the beating of a young soldier in Tampa earlier this week and now a local law firm is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

Longtime attorney Bill Winters of Winters & Yonker was very concerned and said, “With the video, I realized how serious this is.”

The longtime attorney says he doesn’t want this kind of image for Tampa Bay, and he is hoping the reward money helps police catch the thugs who did it.

Original Story:

Tampa Police Department is asking the public for their help in identifying the four people shown on a surveillance video who are shown beating a soldier.

Johnny Aparico, 24, was hospitalized with facial injuries during the attempted robbery, according to a news release.

Aparico’s car broken down on South West Shore Blvd in the Sun Bay South neighborhood around 3:30 early Sunday morning.

He began walking east on West Iowa Avenue, when one of the three men asked him for a dollar. He barely answered when all three started hitting and kicking him.

Video from a nearby security camera shows another man running up Iowa Avenue and joining in the attack. All four men are shown hitting and kicking Aparico after he fell to the ground.

The video also shows Aparico stunned, laying down on the ground, as the men riffled through his pockets, stealing his cellphone and wallet.

Aparico eventually knock on a neighbor’s door and call police.

The victim was in the military and new to the area, police said, and it appeared that it was likely a random crime.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477).
