Shooting in Ybor Overnight

Tampa Police are investigating an early morning shooting at Club Manilla in the area of East 7th Avenue and 27th Street, just east of Ybor City.

Officers on scene tell 10 News five people were shot in the east parking lot just after the club’s closing hour at 2:30am.   There were as many as 1,000 people attending the Monday Ladies Night event.

One victim is listed in critical condition and is undergoing surgery this morning, police said.  The four other victims suffered non-life threatening injuries, with single bullet wounds to their arms and legs.

The gunman is still on the run.

Investigators have interviewed numerous witnesses and are reviewing surveillance video from the club’s security cameras.

Police say Club Manilla has been a problem bar for several years. There were two off duty police officers hired by the club in addition to Club Manilla’s own security staff on duty at the time of the shooting.

Police say they also had on duty officers patrolling the area at closing time, as they often do on the busy Monday nights.

Club Manilla is about seven blocks down 7th Avenue from the problem plagued Club Empire where 20-year-old Leslie Jones was shot and killed and another man wounded last month.  The owners of Club Empire announced last week they are shutting down the club.

Jones killer has still not been found.

When asked if Club Manilla is taking the overflow, Tampa Police could not say for sure.  Monday nights are traditionally busy nights for Club Manilla, so last night’s crowds were not out of the ordinary, police said.
