TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ A Senate committee will consider what impacts the federal health overhaul will have on the state health plan that covers nearly 400,000 state employees, retirees and their dependents.
The state will spend nearly $2 billion this year on the employees’ health insurance program.
The state health plan must meet the same requirements as all health plans under The Affordable Care Act.
State officials said several changes have already been made or are in the works include eliminating lifetime plan maximums, removing annual limits for essential health benefits and adding coverage to employee’s children up to age 26.
Barbara Crosier, director of State Group Health Insurance, is slated to speak at Monday’s meeting in Tallahassee.
