Say Goodbye To Postal Service Box Trucks

Hopefully by now you’ve gotten over the loss of the Good Humor truck, because another sign that the times are a changin’ is about to hit. The traditional, if not iconic, United States Postal Service white, red, and blue box truck is heading for the scrap heap, to be replaced by fleet of 180,000 commercial vans, an overhaul that the Postal Service is meeting with potential bidders about this week.

The price, around $6 billion, and the expectation is for some design improvements for today’s streets. The current box trucks, just don’t cut it these days, with many flaws including subpar gas mileage. The commercial van replacement project has U.S. automakers salivating to win the business.
