Sarasota: I-75 south lanes closed near after crash

SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — A portion of southbound Interstate 75 is closed near Sarasota after a dump truck struck the side of an overpass.

The Florida Highway Patrol says the incident happened around 2:35 a.m. Wednesday at the Ponce DeLeon Boulevard overpass, near mile marker 184.

The highway patrol says the southbound lanes are closed between the River Road exit and Sumter Road.

The Florida Department of Transportation is sending bridge inspectors to the scene to assess the damage. The road will remain closed until the bridge has been inspected and deemed safe for traffic.

Troopers say the northbound lanes remain open.

Motorists are being detoured to U.S. 41.
