St. Petersburg deputies are on the scene of an apparent suicide attempt in the 300 block of 7th Avenue North.
Preliminary information indicates that a distraught woman who was armed with a shotgun forced her 8-year-old son to jump from a second story window, after which she jumped as well.
Both have been taken to a local hospital and their conditions are still being evaluated, but their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
Police say they were called out to 335 7th Avenue North after receiving a 9-1-1 call from the woman claiming her ex-husband was outside the home and trying to get in. When they arrived, they didn’t find anyone suspicious and the woman told them she didn’t think they were really the police.
As they were leaving the property, they heard glass breaking and that’s when they saw the woman armed with the shotgun smashing the second story window.
Police then say they saw the 8-year-old jumping out the window and the woman followed, landing on top of him.
