ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — St. Petersburg police say a man died after accidentally shooting himself while riding a bicycle.
Officials say 25-year-old Troy Earle Smith Jr. was found Thursday afternoon suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
After speaking with a witness and reviewing security video from a nearby business, detectives determined Smith was riding his bike when a handgun in his jacket pocket discharged.
Police found the gun on Smith.
