St. Pete Officer Runs Over Man

A St. Petersburg police officer accidentally ran over a man in the middle of the road.

St. Petersburg police say that one of their officers was responding to a call about a recovered stolen vehicle at 2:45 a.m. Wednesday when he ran over a 67-year-old man who was laying down on Lake Maggiore Blvd South. Police say the officer didn’t see the man after he made a left turn from Dr. MLK Street South onto Lake Maggiore Blvd South and ran over him.

He was treated at the scene by fire rescue transported to Bayfront Hospital and is currently in critical condition. Traffic homicide investigators are currently conducting an investigation and the roadway has since reopened.
