St. Pete: Water Main Break Causes Partial Collapse

Crews are at the scene of a depression that has formed in St. Petersburg at 7th Street South and Central Ave.

St. Petersburg Police have closed Central Ave. between 6th and 8th Streets due to the large hole that’s caused a partial building collapse at 670 Central Ave, which is right next to the Kool Daddy Record store.

Pinellas County Fire Rescue says they are having to shore up the wall because of some water erosion.

St. Petersburg Fire Rescue responded to at 8:00 a.m. The structure was unoccupied, there were no
injuries.

The building’s structure is currently being assessed. City of St. Petersburg’s Water Department is now working on the water maintain leak.

A large forklift is going to place 2 large beams across the damaged portion of the building to brace it. That will take a few hours. Once the building is stabilized the workers can repair the water main leak.

Workers are diverting the water flow so they can bypass the leak and restore water to the block.
