An elderly man who was walking along 49th Street North in St. Petersburg when he was hit by a car. He was transported to Bayfront Medical Center as a trauma alert.
Police say the accident occurred in the southbound lanes of 49th Street North between 23rd Avenue North and 22nd Avenue North.
The suspect was driving a light blue van or SUV and fled the scene but has been located by police.
Additional information will be released once officers have completed their preliminary investigation.
Traffic is now reopened on 49th Street North.
