2 Police Injured in St. Pete Crash

An officer and a Sargent were injured in a crash Monday morning in St. Petersburg.

According to police, the incident happened at 3:35 a.m. The officer and Sargent were on scene of a DUI stop on 24th Avenue and 4th Street North where a car had hit a Papa John’s 18-wheeler and the driver of the car was arrested for DUI.

That’s when a Crown Victoria crashed into the two separate cruisers from behind.

The officer has neck and back injuries and the Sgt. has neck injuries. Both were transported to the hospital and are alert and in stable condition.

The driver of the Crown Vic refused medical treatment. Alcohol impairment is suspected and that investigation is underway.

4th Street will remain closed for a couple of hours during the investigation.
