Safety Equipment To Be Installed on I-75

I 75 Sign

Two years after 11 people were killed and 21 injured in a frightening series of crashes on a smoke- and fog-shrouded Interstate 75 south of Gainesville, construction is about to start on technology that will make that stretch the most-monitored length of road in the state.

Cameras — both standard and infrared — will be installed along with visibility sensors, dynamic messaging signs and vehicle detection devices to ensure that authorities and drivers are quickly notified when conditions deteriorate in the bowl-like zone where I-75 crosses Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park.
