Rubio AWOL for Abortion Funding Vote

Creating another example of why Americans no longer trust politicians, Marco Rubio and Lindsey Graham both turned up as no-shows as the U.S. Senate voted through its Continuing Resolution on the budget, effectively funding Planned Parenthood.

Backed by Democrats and Establishment Republicans, the vote passed easily. However, both Rubio and Graham are running for president and being present for this vote would’ve supplied evidence that they are willing to back up their speeches with actual actions.

“By the year 2020, I hope we will be able to say that abortions after 20 weeks are illegal, that no taxpayer money is used to fund abortions here or abroad, and that Planned Parenthood doesn’t receive a penny from the federal government,” Rubio said at last weekend’s Value Voters Summit.

Rubio and Graham were joined by fellow GOPers Bob Corker — the man who basically traded the Senate’s treaty power to help Obama pass the Iran nuke deal — and Missouri’s Roy Blunt.

Presidential candidate and current GOP frontrunner Donald Trump seized the moment to highlight Rubio’s poor attendance record.

“I think he’s a man who doesn’t show up to Congress to vote, to the Senate to vote,” Trump told Breitbart News. ” When you’re a member of the Senate, when you’re elected to the Senate, you’re supposed to show up to vote. He’s got the worst voting record in all of the Senate by far. That means he’s either a not hard worker or he’s maybe even something worse than that. But what you’re supposed to do if you’re elected, you’re supposed to be voting. There’s no excuses for that.”
