Roller Rink Guard Killed Taking On Gunman

GRAND TERRACE, Calif. — A witness says a security guard at a Southern California roller rink saved lives when gunfire broke out during an all-night New Year’s Eve party.

The guard, 48-year-old Richard Williamson of Riverside, was killed and two other men were injured. San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies say the shooting occurred outside Cal Skate in the city of Grand Terrace. About 200 people, including many children, were attending the party.

Witness Michael Marcoly told KNBC-TV that Williamson “saved a bunch of kids and families”

The Sheriff’s department says the other victims were a 28-year-old and a 22-year-old. One was treated at the scene, and the other was hospitalized. Their names have not been released.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in seeking suspects, and no details on a motive had been released.
