Riverview Woman Shot After Answering Door

A 37-year-old Riverview mother at home with her two children was shot after answering her front door early Saturday, deputies said.

The woman was taken to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, at 12:26 a.m. the woman heard several knocks at the door of her home on the 12900 block of Fennway Ridge Drive. When she answered the door, someone opened fire, hitting her multiple times, deputies said.

Her husband and 9-year-old twins were home. The woman also has a 17-year-old son and a and 21-year-old son that were not home, deputies said.

Deputies said there may be more than one suspect because they recovered two different types of weapon casings. The shooters fled in a dark colored sedan. The sheriff’s office did not release a possible motive or any other details.
