Reward Increases in Soldier Beating

UPDATE: The Tampa Police Department has been receiving calls from businesses and citizens on how they can help the robbery victim with reward money for the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.

The reward total at this time is $16,250.  Winters and Yonker Law Firm has offered $10,000, The Church Without Walls – $5,000, a citizen from Virginia – $1,000 and a citizen from New Jersey – $250.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tampa Police Department.

The victim is out of the hospital.

Tampa Police Department is asking the public for their help in identifying the four people shown on a surveillance video who are shown beating a soldier.

Johnny Aparico, 24, was hospitalized with facial injuries during the attempted robbery, according to a news release.

Aparico’s car broken down on South West Shore Blvd in the Sun Bay South neighborhood around 3:30 early Sunday morning.

He began walking east on West Iowa Avenue, when one of the three men asked him for a dollar. He barely answered when all three started hitting and kicking him.

Video from a nearby security camera shows another man running up Iowa Avenue and joining in the attack. All four men are shown hitting and kicking Aparico after he fell to the ground.

The video also shows Aparico stunned, laying down on the ground, as the men riffled through his pockets, stealing his cellphone and wallet.

Aparico eventually knock on a neighbor’s door and call police.

The victim was in the military and new to the area, police said, and it appeared that it was likely a random crime.
