Report Shows Modest Increase In Employer Health Rates

A new survey finds that health insurance premiums are rising at a modest rate. But workers are facing far higher out-of-pocket costs. U.S. healthy insurance premiums are going up only 3% this year, to an average of $16,834 for a family.

Worker will pay about 20% of that cost, according to the Kaiser Family Foundation’s 2014 Employer Health Benefits report out Wednesday. According to the report, the rate increases are slowing from recession highs that ran far above inflation rates. In the past 10 years, healthcare premiums rose a cumulative total of 69%.
