The Lake Hamilton Florida police department is under fire.
A Polk County State Attorney probe says the department is not competent to carry out the most basic law enforcement and investigation procedures.
The investigation began after a one month old died from abuse by the baby’s parents.
The officer took the parents’ word that the baby had fallen accidentally.
Doctors were later able to immediately tell the child had been shaken badly.
The report points to a slew of botched investigations where officers failed to follow proper procedure.
Worst of all, the report says evidence critical to prosecutors is not properly handled or stored.
