President Obama Addresses The UN General Assembly

A day after the U.S. began airstrikes against militants in Syria, President Obama opened three days of United Nations diplomacy Tuesday with an emphasis on curbing climate change and improving civil society. The President Obama told a special UN climate summit that, while terrorism and instability are among many global challenges, the threat of climate change is the “one issue that will define the contours of this country.”

Over the next three days at the U.N., Obama also plans to discuss efforts to roll back Islamic State positions in Iraq and Syria — including the new airstrikes in Syria — sanction Russia over pro-separatist violence in eastern Ukraine, and stop the spread of the Ebola virus in West Africa.
