LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) _ A 25-year-old central Florida woman tells detectives she acted in self-defense when her father and 6-year-old daughter were fatally stabbed.
Cheyanne Jessie said in an arrest affidavit released Monday that her daughter, Meredith Jessie, and her 50-year-old father, Mark Weekly, were killed during a struggle over a knife and a gun with her dad at his home last month.
Detectives aren’t buying her story and she is facing two counts of first-degree murder and a count of tampering with evidence. She goes before a judge on Monday.
Detectives say Jessie had no injuries to suggest she had been in a struggle with her father.
They say she went to her father’s house on July 18 and killed him and her daughter, then later hid their remains in the landlord’s shed.
