Polk County Teen Shot and Killed

Police aren’t saying what led up to the shooting and killing of a Polk County teenager last night.

Detectives are actively investigating the shooting death of a 18 year old male, John L. Hazelton, which occurred at 1060 Golfview Avenue in Bartow, Florida.

This ongoing investigation has established that the victim and a juvenile subject became involved in an argument prior in the day on 01/12/2012.

At about 8:50 PM, the suspect traveled to the residence of a family member to the victim. After summoning the victim to the door, the suspect produced a large caliber handgun and fired 2 shots at the victim.

One of these shots ultimately struck the victim in the head, causing his death.

Investigation led to the identity of the suspect, who later surrendered to law enforcement at the Bartow Police Department.

The juvenile suspect was taken into custody on the charge of Felony Murder.

Officials said the 16-year-old pulled out a gun and shot Hazelton in the head.

The suspect was taken into custody Thursday night. In accordance with Bay News 9’s crime guidelines, the suspect will not be named unless he is charged as an adult.

 

The investigation is ongoing.
