Police Question Cousin In St. Petersburg Shooting

firstdegree_2013ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — St. Petersburg police say the 14-year-old boy who accidentally shot his 13-year-old cousin has been questioned and released.

Officials say the teen turned himself in to police around 5 a.m. Wednesday.

On Tuesday, detectives say a bullet passed through a bedroom wall from an adjoining bathroom, striking the girl.

The girl’s mother rushed her, the cousin and several other children to All Children’s Hospital, where the girl is in good condition.

Once there, authorities say the teen cousin got separated from the rest of the family. The hospital was placed on lockdown as a search was conducted.

Police say the boy was reportedly cleaning a gun in the bathroom when he accidentally fired it into a wall. The bullet passed into the girl’s bedroom and hit her in the chest.
