Police: NO Celebratory Gunfire Tonight

Bay area law enforcement, paramedics, and hospitals are pleading with people not to celebrate the new year with gunfire.

Several times in the past several years, people locally have been hit by falling bullets fired by others celebrating the new year or Independence Day.

The most publicized case involved a Ruskin boy named Diego Duran, who suffered life threatening head injuries by a falling slug.

The shooter was never found, possibly because shots fired into the air can come down miles away.

Firing a gun into the air is illegal in Florida.
