Pinellas County To Hold Indoors Graduations

Graduation_2013ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — School officials in Pinellas County are about to buck a longstanding tradition.

In the spring, most of the county’s high schools will hold indoor graduation ceremonies to avoid rain and bad weather. Superintendent Mike Grego announced the changes Tuesday during a school board workshop. Officials point out that in 2013, half of the county’s schools with outdoor graduations had to reschedule or relocate due to weather.

The Tampa Bay Times reports St. Petersburg High School will hold graduation at Tropicana Field and five other schools are also moving their commencement exercises indoors.

Two schools — Clearwater and Tarpon Springs — still plan on outdoor ceremonies. Clearwater High students will graduate at Brighthouse Field and Tarpon Springs will have a ceremony at the school’s football field.
