Over a Million Dollars Found in Storage Unit

Wednesday night police found suitcases filled with $20, $50 and $100 bills as well as credit reports and birth certificates of people in a Portland, OR storage unit.

Authorities seized about $1.5 million  and other items in searches of property linked to a man suspected in a veterans charity scam.

Investigators say Bobby Thompson collected millions of dollars for the Tampa-based U.S. Navy Veterans Association, a phony agency that authorities say he created. It is unclear what Thompson’s real name is. He refuses to give his real name.

Thompson was arrested in Portland late Monday night by U.S. marshals after he left an Irish pub carrying a cane and backpack with fake Canadian ID cards and $2,500, investigators said.
