The Florida Highway Patrol says that at 4:35 p.m. Monday, the 42-year-old victim drove into the path of the oncoming train, consisting of two engines and eight passenger cars. The crash caused the car to burst into flames, after which the victim died.
None of the train’s 147 passengers were injured and the train did not derail from the tracks. The train was traveling from Miami to Tampa.
The victim’s name is pending next of kin notification.
The investigation continues.
