TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) _ The Florida Legislature is releasing a proposed map of new congressional districts ahead of a special session to approve new political boundaries.
The map released Wednesday has several significant changes that will likely affect several incumbent members of Congress.
Rep. Corrine Brown’s district that now stretches from Jacksonville south to Orlando would instead run west past Tallahassee.
If that’s approved, it would also affect Rep. Gwen Graham’s district, removing part of Tallahassee and Gadsden County and making it much more difficult for the Democrat to win a second term.
The Legislature will begin a special session on Monday after the state Supreme Court ruled last month that the current congressional map is unconstitutional.
The proposed map is to be used as a base to be considered by lawmakers.
