Mother & Son Arrested for Stealing Millions from Toy Stores

MIAMI (AP) _ A South Florida mother and son are behind bars after authorities say they stole nearly $2 million from toy stores around the country, then sold the goods online.

Broward Sheriff’s deputies say Michael and Margaret Pollara visited 139 Toys R Us in 27 states, buying nearly $7,000 worth of small ticket items to fuel their scam.

According to an arrest affidavit, the Pollaras trolled stores looking for inexpensive toys that came in large boxes.

They then emptied out the contents and filled the large box with more expensive toys.

Authorities said 70-year-old Margaret Pollara often worked as a lookout.

Authorities said Michael Pollaras had more than $900,000 in eBay and PayPal accounts.

They were arrested Thursday and face a bevy of theft charges.

They remain in jail on bond.
