Mother In Jail After Taking Daughter With Down Syndrome

amber_alert_2013FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP) – Authorities say a Fort Myers woman accused of taking her daughter during a supervised visit is in jail in north Florida.

Florida State Agricultural Officers arrested 46-year-old Christine Riemer on Interstate 75 near the Florida-Georgia state line late Tuesday. They say 7-year-old Crystal was found safe.

An Amber Alert had been issued earlier Tuesday after Lutheran Services officials in Fort Myers notified police that Riemer had taken Crystal during a court-ordered supervised visit.

The News-Press of Fort Myers reports the child has special needs and is the size of a 3-year-old. The Department of Children and Families took custody of Crystal.

Riemer was arrested on charges of driving with a suspended license and for bypassing a weigh station and is in jail in Jasper.

Fort Myers police are investigating.
