More Cold Temps for Tampa Bay

A Freeze Watch Still In Effect for the Tampa Bay Area:

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Keep the jackets handy.

Chilly temperatures across the state Tuesday will plummet into freezing weather Tuesday night and into Wednesday, forecasters say.

Meteorologists say Tampa will struggle to hit 30 degrees. Strawberry capitol Plant City is supposed to reach only 23 degrees and northern counties will likely drop into the teens. Even South Florida will see cold temperatures in the 40s.

Strawberry farmers in central Florida will be up all night to turn on sprinklers to spray water on the tender fruit. The water will freeze and provide insulation for the fruit.

Meanwhile, emergency officials are opening cold weather shelters for the homeless and other needy people who don’t have heat in their homes.
