Forget celebrity poker tournaments. The next big thing to hit Las Vegas – and maybe a TV or computer screen near you – is Millionaire Chess. Organized by a Canadian entrepreneur and an American chess grand-master, the competition next month at Planet Hollywood Casino will feature 500 players from 39 countries who paid at least $1000 and hope to take home $1 million.
The organizers also are gambling on the event’s popularity; they’re planning on losing money this year but hoping to pick up corporate sponsors for future tournaments.
