Middle School Student Accused Of Attacking Girl

PANAMA CITY, Fla. — A 14-year-old middle school student is accused of felony battery after an attack on another student left her in the hospital.

Officials say the girl grabbed another 14-year-old by the hair and slammed her head against the floor during class change at Merritt Brown Middle School near Panama City last Thursday.

The News Herald of Panama City reports several students ran to get school resource officer Dawn Branning, telling her a girl was “knocked out and bleeding badly.” She says the girl was alert, but her condition deteriorated.

Officials say the girl’s mother and grandfather took her to the hospital where she had surgery to repair bleeding on the brain.

Investigators are trying to find out what caused the incident.

The teen was taken to a juvenile detention center.
