South Florida Fugutive Arrested In Mexico After 37-Year Absence

A former South Florida man has been arrested in Mexico 37 years after failing to surrender for a 10-month prison sentence.

Miami U.S. Attorney’s officials say Robert Anton Woodring was indicted in 1984 for failing to surrender in 1977. That year he was supposed to start his sentence for removing a yacht.

Woodring had also been sentenced in a related case to seven years in prison. That case involved mail fraud and conspiracy to commit mail fraud.

U.S. Marshals apprehended Woodring in Guadalajara, Mexico, last month, and he agreed to be transported to Miami for further proceedings. He is set to be arraigned Wednesday.
